Rest in Peace Jimmy Sullivan

I really can't say much.
But I'll do my best to try, for you.

I'm a simple 14 year old girl.
You were an extremely complicated 28 year old guy.
I live in Massachusetts.
You lived in California.
I play guitar
You played drums
I do great in school and never get in trouble
You're school career was goofing off and causing Mayhem.

We were completely different, yet I see you as my idol.

I didn't even know you, yet with you gone I feel like I'm
missing something, like I've lost a part of my heart. Now
there's a hole in there, and I don't know what to do to fix it.

I miss the way you'd go kung fu on your roadies.
I miss the way you'd chase those stallion ducks - the ones that were really geese.
I miss the way you'd scream at a BMW, surely you've gone crazy.
I miss the way you'd go searching for the elusive, hibernating steak taco.
I miss the way you'd be yourself on stage, and the way you lived your life to the fullest.
But most of all, I miss the way you did what you loved and made millions of people happy.

I guess in a way, you could see the future, but
this is one prediction I wish had been wrong.

"On December 27th, 2009, the members of avenged Sevenfold were at their friend Matt Berry's wedding reception in a park in their home town of Huntington Beach, California. It was a fun day, a family day, a day for broad smiles and tall stories, warm hugs and cold beers. Matt and his twin brother Jason, A8x's  merch guy and drum tech respectively, had brought in kegs of lager for their guests, and as the sun dipped and the day drew to a close, someone suggested wheeling a keg over to M Shadow's house, a couple of miles away, to continue the party. The band's front man politely declined the idea: he had to be up at 6am for a two hour drive to play golf in Santa Barbara and embarking upon that journey with a hangover wouldn't be the smartest idea. That was the cue for his buddies Synyster Gates, Zacky Vengeance, and Johnny Christ to call it a night too, but drummer Jimmy 'The Rev' Sullivan - always the life and soul of every Avenged part - decided he was up for more fun, and disappeared into the night with friends, "happy as a clam" as M. recalls.
"That party may have ended early, but the party never ended for jimmy," the singer says. "Jimmy was the  kind of guy that would hang out with anybody at any time and do whatever they wanted to do, he was down: He was friends with everybody. It was just one time too many..."
At 1pm the next day, as he was finishing off his round of golf, M. received a phone call telling him that Jimmy was dead. His best friend was just 28 years old. In the dark, distressing, damaged days that followed, the singer kept asking himself 'what if?'; 'What if he'd thrown open his door to his friends that fateful night?' 'What if they'd drunk the keg dry, talking shit 'till the sun rose and crashed out on his floor as so often before?'
Six months to the day after his friend was laid to rest, these questions continue to nag at M.'s mind: He knows that they probably always will.

There are so many 'What If's

What if you hadn't gone to the wedding one year and a day ago?
What if you realized "Hey I shouldn't be doing this"?
What if you had insisted that Matt let you bring the keg until he finally broke down?

But we can't dwell on the what if's.
What's happened has happened, and
there's nothing we can do to change it.

But now we can help your memory live on.
We'll scream at all the BMW's we see
We'll chase all the stallion ducks we ever come across, because they're "The biggest fucking duck I've ever seen in my life!"
We'll throw sticks at those damn pigeons.
We'll order the steak taco, even though it's supposed to be in hibernation.
We'll kill you, because we have mental problems and because we need lasik.

We'll do whatever we have to to
keep your memory alive, because
we may just be a simple 23 year
old from Texas, or maybe a 18 year
old from Finland, or maybe a 14 year
old from Massachusetts like me.
But no matter what, you'll be our idol,
and you'll be in our hearts, thoughts and minds
foREVer.

I guess banging those failing organs like a
Nintendo system doesn't always work, huh?
